No Contest Plea Avoids Trial In 2017 Deaths of 4 MC Riders

OGALLALA, Neb. (AP) – There will be no trial for a Kansas man charged in the 2017 traffic deaths of 4 Iowa motorcyclists near Ogallala.

24-year old Jeser Cisneros-Hernandez of Liberal was set for trial yesterday, but instead entered a No Contest plea in Keith County District Court to a single count of motor vehicle homicide with prosecutors dropping 3 identical felony counts. He will be sentenced in April.

Cisneros-Hernandez was driving an SUV when he crossed the center line on Highway 26 south of Lake McConaughy on July 1st, 2017, and hit two motorcycles carrying two people each. Killed were Sheila and James Matheny of Bedford and Michael and Jerolyn Weese of Council Bluffs.

Court records show Cisneros-Hernandez told investigators he was driving “while exhausted” at the time of the accident, having gotten only about an hour of rest between the end of his working shift in Sidney, Montana, and leaving to driver home to Liberal.
