Noem Names New Interim Corrections Sec, Penitentiary Warden

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem says interim Secretary of Corrections Tim Reisch is stepping down next month and being replaced by Doug Clark, currently acting warden of the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

Both Reisch and Clark had been named to their current temporary positions in July amid an investigation into working conditions at the prison in Sioux Falls, an investigation that started as a result of anonymous complaints by prison system staffers.

Noem says she’s tremendously grateful to Reisch, a former adjutant general of the South Dakota National Guard, and Clark for “stepping in during a time of great need for the Dept of Corrections.

The governor also says her top priority continues to be the safety of both prison staffers and the inmates they oversee.

Replacing Clark as warden at the Penitentiary, effective Dec 13, is veteran corrections official Daniel Sullivan. Noem says he brings “fresh eyes and a wealth of experience” to the job.

Daniel recently retired after 23 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, leaving as associate warden at the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, MN.

He also served nearly 10 years in the Navy Reserve, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer and mobilizing to active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2006-2007 as the Leading Petty Officer at the Naval Corrections Academy.

Daniel has earned multiple degrees in criminal justice, including a Master of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
