The accident occurred about 4:00 PM near Arthur Bay with winds 15-to-20 mph and lake conditions described as rough. Game and Parks says 53-year old Kevin Kiesow was taken to Ogallala Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, while 55-year old Kim Campe was admitted and is recovering. Both are from Colorado Springs. Conservation officers say witnesses told them Campe fell overboard from a pontoon boat and that Kiesow, her boyfriend, jumped in to rescue her but had to be rescued himself by others on the pontoon boat and from another nearby boat. Kiesow was being given CPR when officers arrived. The operator of the pontoon board was not cited, but a boat accident report will be completed and submitted to the Keith County Attorney for review. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the incident, although it’s not known if alcohol was a factor in Kiesow’s death.
