One-Vehicle Crash Near Piedmont Claims Life

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a one-vehicle crash Tuesday night in the Black Hills about 8 miles east of Piedmont claimed the life of one man and hospitalized another with life-threatening injuries. Neither name has been released.

The Highway Patrol says the men were in a pickup northbound on Galaxy Road about 7:45 when the driver lost control on the snow and ice-covered pavement. The vehicle left the roadway and eventually rolled.

The 40-year-old passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene while the 36-year-old driver was taken to a Rapid City hospital. It is unknown at this time whether he was wearing a seat belt.

The Highway Patrol investigation in the crash is continuing.
