OST On Schedule With Processing Member Applications For COVID Relief Checks

The Oglala Sioux Tribe has processed about a third of more than 30,000 applications for $2,000 covid relief checks

The American Rescue Plan checks are limited to enrolled members of the tribe, and the OST Enrollment Office says it’s received about 1,300 new enrollment applications in recent weeks.

Tribal President Kevin Killer says the tribe has 45 days to get the checks out and they’re currently ahead of schedule.

He and other leaders are reassuring tribal members not to worry if they haven’t received their check yet and urging them not to submit duplicate applications or to call asking about where their check is.

The checks will be mailed and anyone with questions can contact the OST ARP website for information.

President Killer is also urging members to spend the money wisely because it’s a one-time disaster payment and a unique chance to advance the needs of their family or get things they might need.

He adds that retailers are prepping for a potentially major boost to the local economy when the checks start to be used.
