Outlook For SD Pheasant Season Unclear

South Dakota’s pheasant season opens this weekend and it could be hit or miss for hunter success.

Hunters killed more than 1.1 million pheasants last year and there’s no real outlook for this season because South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks hasn’t done any brood reports for two years.

Extreme drought conditions this spring may have kept chick production down, but a mild winter and positive field reports from around the state could mean things aren’t as bleak as they may look.

As far as weekend weather conditions for hunters are concerned – they look good, with sunshine and temperatures in the 60s both days.
