Panhandle Records 5th COVID-19 DeathPosted by John AxtellDate: July 10, 20203 ViewsSCOTTSBLUFF – Panhandle Unified Command says the region has suffered its 5th COVID-19 death, a woman in her 70s with underlying health conditions.All 5 deaths have been Scotts Bluff County residents with pre-existing health issues.Unified Command recorded just 1 new case yesterday while declaring 16 cases fully recovered – 9 in Scotts Bluff County and 7 in Morrill County.The Panhandle has now had 345 confirmed cases, but 257 of those have recovered – leaving 83 active cases, including 3 who are hospitalized. 5.9% of the 5,803 tests give in the Panhandle have been positive.Testing opportunities continue to grow in the Panhandle. Chadron Community Hospital now offers free testing Mondays and Fridays from 7-9 am through the Test Nebraska program. Appointments need to be made at Testnebraska.comThe Gordon Clinic is offering testing in its parking lot next Monday and Thursday from 3-4 PM. For an appointment call 308-282-6334 or 308-282-1442Statewide, yesterday’s update from Nebraska Health and Human Services had 198 new cases, bringing the total to 20,623 out of 201,249 tests given with 15,206 recoveries, 100 current hospitalizations and 284 deaths.The percentage of available hospital beds in the state stands at 41% along with 46%of ICU beds and 78% of ventilators.
