SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) – Three people are in the Cheyenne County Jail in Sidney following a Christmas Eve morning incident on Interstate 80 near Sidney that saw one of them jump from a moving SUV onto the freedway.
20-year old Kaniya Coleman, 22-year old Quavaria Griffin – both of Portland, Ore – and 27-year old Ellis Dickerson of Pennsylvani, are all charged with a variety of charges including misdemeanor theft and possession of more than a pound of marijuana.
The Nebraska State Patrol says troopers were alerted about 6:30 a-m to a theft and assault at a Sidney truck strop with 3 suspects fleeing in an SUV that had headed eastbound on the freeway.
A trooper spotted the SUV a short time later about 15 miles east of Sidney and tried to make a traffic stop. The SUV slowed to about 50 mph when Coleman jumped out.
The trooper stopped and began giving verbal commands to Coleman, but she fled on a foot. A second trooper gave chase on foot and quickly took her into custody.
The SUV stopped in middle of the eastbound lanes, where Griffin and Dickerson were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana and a drink that had been stolen from the truck stop. Coleman was treated for moderate injuries suffered jumping onto the freeway.
