Rapid City Approves Rules For Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Rapid City Council now has rules in place for medical marijuana dispensaries in the community.

The ordinance goes into effect Oct. 2 following an 8-1 vote this week by the City Council.

The ordinance limits the number of dispensaries to 15 within city limits, a provision that led councilman Bill Evans to cast the lone no vote.

He said the market should decide the number of outlets or the city should have its own.

Businesses who apply for and receive a medical cannabis license will have one year to get the business up and running. Licenses cost $5,000 and require an annual renewal fee of the same amount.
