RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – Rapid City police say the man who died after a shootout with police during a routine traffic stop last Wednesday night was positive for COVID-19. 30-year-old Anthony Angel of Rapid City died of his wounds at a hospital the following day.
South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says the state Division of Criminal Investigation and Rapid City Police Department confirmed that Angel was positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Ravnsborg also says all police officers and DCI agents who were potentially exposed came back negative.
A Rapid City officer shot Angel after a routine traffic stop escalated into a shootout. The officer, whose name has not been released, was placed on administrative leave. No officers were hurt.
