Ravnsborg Trial Could Start In 3 Or 4 Months

South Dakota Circuit Judge John Brown says he’s aiming at August or early September to start Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg’s trial on 3 misdemeanor charges for hitting and killing a pedestrian.

Brown held a status hearing on the case Wednesday and defense attorney Tim Rensch requested 60 more days, citing the need to review key pieces of evidence, including interviews.

Hyde County Deputy State’s Attorney Emily Sovell, the prosecutor in the case, urged the judge to move ahead with the trial.

Ravnsborg is accused of being distracted last September when his car hit and killed 55-year old Joseph Boever, who was walking along a highway near Highmore as Ravnsborg returned to his home in Pierre from a GOP event.
