Ricketts Proclaims Monday Korean War Veterans Amristice Day Posted by John Axtell Date: July 24, 2020 2 Views LINCOLN – Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts has signed a proclamation designating this Monday July 27, as Korean War Veterans Armistice Day in the state. Joining the governor for the signing were Nebraska Dept of Veterans’ Affairs Director John Hilgert and Don Kane, President of the Nebraska chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association. Ricketts says the signing and ceremony are about “honoring and remembering our state’s Korean War veterans. Nebraskans are proud of those who have served and will never forget the sacrifices made by the men and women of our Armed Services and their families.” Over 5.7 million Americans served during the Korean War period, which lasted from June 1950 to July 1953. Of the more than 36,000 U.S. military casualties in Korea, 318 were Nebraskans and today Nebraska is home to over 7,300 veterans from the Korean War era.
