Rounds Files For Reelection

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Republican U-S Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota has ended months of uncertainty and announced he is running for a second term.

A reelection bid had been expected to be a certainty until the former governor announced in June that his wife Jean had been diagnosed with cancer and was beginning treatments. Her prognosis is good after chemotherapy followed last month by radiation.

Rounds has one challenger in the Republican primary, State Representative Scyller Borglum of Rapid City, who has tried to position herself as more conservative and supportive of President Trump.

Rounds has a solid record of supporting the president and, like every GOP senator except Mitt Romney, voted to acquit him of the impeachment charges. Rounds also holds a huge cash advantage over Borglum.
