A routine traffic stop Tuesday night in Chadron landed a Wyoming man in the Dawes County jail on 4 charges including felony possession of methamphetamine. 36-year old Garret Smith of Cheyenne is being held on $10,000 bail.

Chadron police officer Seth Orsborn stopped Smith’s car about 10:15 after it ran a stop sign along Hwy 20, which is also 3rd Street.

A search of the car was made after Orsborn detected the odor of marijuana from within the vehicle as he made contact with Smith. The search found several grams of concealed suspected marijuana and meth

A records check also revealed that Smith’s Wyoming driver’s license was suspended and he was taken into custody for driving under suspension, the felony meth charge, and marijuana and drug paraphernalia infractions.
