WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has named Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse to the powerful Senate Finance Committee, which has sweeping jurisdiction over trade policy, tax structure, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Sasse, who will continue to serve 3 other committees – Intelligence, Judiciary and Banking – says joining the Finance Committee can have a very positive impact on Nebraska.

Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation President Steve Nelson agrees, calling Sasse a senator who is “unapologetically supportive of trade (and) has always made sure that Nebraska farmers and ranchers have a seat at the table.”

Nelson says having a seat on the Finance Committee puts Sasse in a position to fight for agriculture from the front lines of Congress, adding that Farm Bureau looks forward to working with him on ag priorities such as expanded trade, lower taxes, and affordable health care.
