Sasse Would “Consider” Voting Yes If Democrats Pass New Articles of Impeachment Posted by John Axtell Date: January 09, 2021 3:07 pm Leave a comment 490 Views Nebraska Republican U-S Senator Ben Sasse is blasting President Donald Trump for his statements just before Wednesday’s riot at the U.S. Capitol. Sasse told multiple new sources on Friday that the president deserves some blame for “pouring gasoline on these fires of division” and disregarding his oath of office. He said in an interview with National Public Radio that he places blame first on the violent mob that stormed the Capitol, then on the president for inciting the riot. He also said he’s open to using the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office. In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Sasse said he’d heard privately from senior White House aides that as the riot was unfolding on TV, the President was walking around the White House confused about why other people on his team weren’t as excited as he was about rioters pushing against Capitol Police trying to get into the building. Sasse attacked Trump frequently before the 2016 election, but strongly supported his policies the next 4 years and won the President’s endorsement in the primary election against an opponent who said he wasn’t strongly enough pro-Trump. After the November election, though, Sasse has blasted Trump on a regular basis on subjects from “kissing the butts of dictators” to the “loaded gun” pointed “at the heart of legitimate self-government” of his claims of massive voter fraud.
