There’s an increased police presence in and around schools across the country today, including in Chadron, in response to what officials call “a troubling post on the social media platform TikTok.
It encourages students to bring weapons to “every school in the USA, even elementary,” today for National Shoot Up Your School Day.
The Chadron school district has issued a statement similar to those from thousands of districts across the country, saying they will be in close contact with local police today.
The statement also says while the TikTok post did not originate locally and, they are not aware of any evidence of a credible threat to local schools, they are monitoring the situation and taking it seriously.
TikTok issued a statement on Twitter that it hasn’t found any threats, but is working with law enforcement to look into warnings about potential violence at schools even though they haven’t found evidence or such threats originating or spreading via TikTok
