SD Congressman Gets Primary Challenger Over Trump Votes

South Dakota State Representative Taffy Howard has formally announced that she is challenging Dusty Johnson, the state’s lone congressman, in next year’s Republican primary.

Howard says Johnson should be replaced because he voted to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election and for creation of an independent commission to investigate the January 6th Capitol riot.

Howard supports Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims that he won the presidential election but massive voter fraud made Joe Biden appear to be the winner.

Johnson is in his second term, having succeeded Kristi Noem when she decided against seeking reelection in 2018 and instead successfully ran for governor.
