SE Neb Niobium Mine Gets County Approval

TECUMSEH, Neb. (AP) – The Johnson County commissioners in southeast Nebraska have granted a permit to a Colorado company to mine for niobium, a rare, heat-resistant element.

The commissioners determined the project by NioCorp Developments Ltd was not incompatible with agriculture and was designed to minimize impact on its neighbors. NioCorp also agreed to pave and maintain a county road to the mine project site.

The project near Elm Creek is expected to create more than 400 jobs and qualified in October for up to $200 million dollars in state tax incentives.
