Second Nebraska Inmate Dies After Testing Positive For COVID-19

Loading

Nebraska prison officials say another inmate who had tested positive for COVID-19 has died. The Dept of Correctional Services says the inmate died Friday at an Omaha hospital.

His name isn’t being released, but he was in his 30s and was serving time for 1st-degree sexual assault in Douglas County.

He was the second prisoner to die last week after testing positive for COVID-19. The first, an inmate in his 40s, died Tuesday.

The exact cause of death has not been determined for either inmate, so COVID may or may not have been a factor.

Because both men were in custody when they died, state law requires a grand jury investigation into their deaths.
