Sheridan County Commissioner Loren Paul Passes At Age 80

Sheridan County Commissioner Loren Paul of Gordon has died, passing away Saturday at Gordon Memorial Hospital at age 80.

Paul was born in Gordon and spent his entire life in the area except for his first year out of high school and 4 years in the U-S Navy.

He, his wife Shirley, and their sons Jim, Keith, and Ryan farmed and ranched southwest of Gordon for many years before starting Loren Paul Trucking.

Paul served 2 terms as a Sheridan County Commissioner in the 1990s, then re-entered politics to win two more terms in 2016 and 2020.

Loren Paul always loved to sing and in the Navy taught himself to play the guitar, leading to an avocation he pursued until the end.

He played with his aunt and his father’s band in his younger years, and he and Shirley continued to sing regularly at local nursing homes and as often as possible for family and friends.

A vigil will be held Wednesday at 7:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rushville, which will be the location for a Memorial Mass Thursday morning at 10:00. Inurnment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Gordon.

A memorial has been established for the CARE cancer support program and donations may be sent to the Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon.
