Sioux County Fair Working Its Way To A Big Weekend Finish

The Sioux County Fair adds a few more events today, building up to its final 2 days. The Prairie Art Guild Show runs from 8:30-5:00 while Art Hall is open from 9:00 to  4:00.

There’s steer roping at 2:00 while the Sioux County High School Alumni Banquet begins with registration at 5:00 and Dinner at 6:00 at the high school.

Yesterday was the 7th Annual Badlands Storage Cookie, Bar, and Baked Goods Contest with a record 22 entries, the most in the events 7-year history.

Sponsors and judges Mike and Linda Kesselring saying all 22 looked and tasted great, making it very hard to pick the winners – who received cash prizes and certificates of baking excellence.

Mike Kesselring says the fact the entries were “simply excellent, well presented, and tasted very good” shows that home baking is clearly an art that continues in Northwest Nebraska.

Entries were divided into Youth and Adult divisions with the top prize in the Youth Division going to Logen Oldaker with Lemon Poppy Seed Zucchini Bread. Finishing 2nd with a Chocolate Diabetes Bar was Ruger Pelster.

In the Adult Division, 1st-prize went to Laura Button with her Brownie Refrigerator Cake while Morgan Edmund was the runner-up for her Lemon Raspberry Cookies.

Mike Kesselring says a special honorable mention award went to Boone Button for homemade potato chips, explaining that potato chips don’t fall into the category of bake goods, Button’s were so good they needed to be recognized.
