OMAHA, Neb. – The new Miss Nebraska USA should have no trouble adjusting to her duties – she had basically the same ones when she was crowned Miss Nebraska 2014 in the Miss American pagent system.
Megan Swanson of Omaha, crowned Sunday in Omaha, is believed to be the only woman ever to hold both titles and one of a handful to have a sister who was also Miss Nebraska.
In fact, sister Allie Swanson is the reigning Miss Nebraska in the Miss America system, crowned last June in North Platte. She posted on social media after her sister’s victory “Breaking Records. Breaking Stereotypes. Breaking That Glass Ceiling. Swanson sisters for the win!”
Megan Swanson was 21 when she was crowned Miss Nebraska in 2014 and now is one of the older contestants to become Miss Nebraska USA at nearly 27.
She told News Now Omaha that she’s a different person than she was her first time as Miss Nebraska because of what she’s done with her life since then – moving to and returning from Nashville, owning her own company for 4 years, and serving as a leader and mentor for women during that time.
Megan Swanson will compete for the Miss USA title this spring and is hoping for less notoriety than she earned at the 2014 Miss America Pageant when she accidentally flashed the audience – both in the auditorium and on the worldwide tv broadcast.
Swanson was one of several contestants sitting on the stage whe co-host Chris Harrison walked in front of them while talking on-air about how the judges would be looking for “personal style.”
Just as he stopped, Swanson leaned over to say something to another contestant and her legs came open – a faux pas picked up immediately by Twitter that sent #MissNebraska trending for all the wrong reasons.
