Smoke from wildfires in Canada and the western United States has triggered an advisory of potential air quality impacts across Nebraska and South Dakota through Sunday.
Health officials are recommending that sensitive groups consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.
Smoke has been causing hazy conditions across the Panhandle and in the Black Hills for several days, but this morning dropped closer to the ground to appear almost like fog.
Conditions have been worse in eastern parts of Nebraska and South Dakota. Sioux Falls closed its public pools and Wild Water West, the state’s largest waterpark, on Thursday because of the smoke. The waterpark remained closed Friday morning.
The weather forecast calls for light rain in eastern South Dakota, which could provide a bit of help with the air quality.
