Nebraska Health and Human Services says the highly contagious variant of COVID-19 generally dubbed the South Africa strain, has been confirmed in the state. Nebraska has recorded nearly 300 cases of variant strains of the virus.
HHS recorded 409 new confirmed cases of all strains Friday, bringing the pandemic total to 215,792 including 167 who are currently hospitalized.
Panhandle Unified Command reported 3 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the regional total to 8,963 including 53 in the last 14 days. 4 are hospitalized with the death toll still at 191.
Nebraska has administered nearly 1-million 246-thousand doses of COVID vaccine. 52% of the state’s population over age 16 are at least partially vaccinate with almost 524,000 individuals, 35.3% of the 16-plus population, are now fully immunized
The South Dakota Dept of Health reported 255 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 663 recoveries, and 3 deaths on Thursday with 2,201 active cases including 106 who are hospitalized.
The state has had 106,323 total confirmed cases and 1,952 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
According to CDC data, 51.9% of South Dakotans have received at least one dose of vaccine and 37.6% have completed the full vaccine series.
