Search Efforts Suspended For 9-Year Old Girl Missing Nearly 2 Years In The Black Hills

Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom says he’s suspended search efforts for a girl missing since she ran away from a group home in the Black Hills nearly 2 years ago when she was 9.

Sheriff Thom says other agencies or individuals can still go and look for Serenity Dennard, but he’s suspending formal efforts because “we’ve searched every point that we can, in terms of where it makes sense where she could have gone.”

Thom admits frustration because the goal has always been to bring Serenity or her remains home and so far they haven’t been able to give her family closure. The last search was earlier this month on the 13th.

Serenity left the Black Hills Children’s Home near Rockerville on Feb 3rd, 2019, in freezing weather without a coat.

More than 1,500 people from 66 agencies have logged some 6,000 miles in periodic searches since then while investigators followed up 275 leads and interviewed or contact 538 people
