State, Feds Sign Forest Management AgreementPosted by John AxtellDate: September 06, 2020 10:31 pmLeave a comment250 ViewsNebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, U-S Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green have signed an agreement to promote good stewardship of Nebraska’s forests 1st District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry also participated in the signing ceremony Friday at the Capitol in Lincoln.. The Shared Stewardship Agreement brings together interested stakeholders, paves the way for increased collaboration between state and federal agencies, and leverages combined resources to best manage the state’s forests. The Nebraska Forest Service, part of the University of Nebraska, manages the state’s 1.5 million acres of forest. In addition to the signing ceremony, Secretary Perdue toured the UNL campus and took part in a panel discussion there, toured a Certified Piedmontese facility, and visited the Food Bank for the Heartland. 2nd District Congressman Don Bacon and Nebraska Dept of Agriculture Director Steve Wellman also joined the group for the various tours.
