The Nebraska Forest Service coming to Chadron tonight with the latest in a series of public input sessions around the state this month as part of preparing the state’s Forest Action Plan. The meeting is from 6:30-8:00 in the Upper Niobrara White NRD offices at 430 E 2nd Street.
Meeting facilitator Kyle Martin says the Forest Action Plan is a federally-mandated document that assesses the condition and trends of the state’s tree and forest resources
Martin says tonight’s session is mostly an informal opportunity for landowners and other interested individuals to learn more about the draft version of the plan and offer their comments.
Martin says tonight’s Chadron meeting and the others being held this month, including ones last night in Valentine and tomorrow night at the North Platte NRD offices in Scottsbluff, are actually part of one of the last phases of the planning process – public comment.
The Nebraska Forest Service, part of the University of Nebraska, has a copy of the draft plan available for online viewing at nfs.unl.edu/forest-action-plan. Written comments will be accepted through April 15th.
