Storms Spawn Cluster Of Wildfires, 4 In Chadrad Area

       The Great Plains Fire Information Center in Rapid City says thunderstorms Thursday night and Friday morning caused at least 11 wildfires in the area, including two in Dawes County and one each in Sioux and Fall River counties.

       The Cup Fire, on the Nebraska National Forest 4 miles south of Crawford, was the largest of the 4 at 5-acres. It was reported at 2:04 PM and contained at 6:13 by a combination of federal, state, and local resources. 

     The Key Hole Fire was 13.5-miles southeast of Crawford. It was reported at 7:49 AM  and contained at 11:12 at 2-10ths of an acre by U-S Forest Service crews. 

     The Gray Fire was reported at 8:31 AM 12 miles southeast of Harrison in Sioux County and contained 90-minutes later at 1-acre by a combination of local, state, and federal crews. 

       The last of the 4 area fires to be reported at 2:27 PM was the Craven Canyon Fire, 7-¼ miles north-northwest of Edgemont. It grew to 4.28-acres before being contained at 5:36 by another combination of local, state, and federal firefighters.
