Suspect In Pine Ridge Homicide Surrenders In Chadron

       A man sought by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety in connection with a November homicide in Pine Ridge has been arrested without incident in Chadron.

      38-year old Phillip Pond was taken into custody Monday evening on a federal warrant for negligent manslaughter with a weapon. 

      Interim Chadron Police Chief Rick Hickstein says Pond’s arrest was one of the easiest of a warrant fugitive the Chadron department has had in some time.

      While authorities thought Pond might be in Chadron, they were surprised when he walked into the police station about 7:30 Monday night and said friends had told him the police might want to see him.

      Hickstein said officers took Pond into custody after determining he was, indeed, the subject of a bulletin sent out Feb 4th by the OST, although the bulletin described him as armed and dangerous.

       Pond was wanted in connection with the Nov 22 shooting of Justin Little Hawk, who eventually died at a Denver hospital. He is awaiting extradition to the res
