Teenage Rapid City Girl Fatally Shot; Teen Boy In Custody

     Rapid City police say a teenage girl was shot to death Friday morning and a teenage boy is in custody as the suspected shooter.

       Police responding to a report of gunfire found 16-year old McKenzie Garreaux of Rapid City badly wounded. Garreaux was taken to a Rapid City hospital, but died there later in the day.

      19-year old Nathaniel Gray Eagle of Rapid City was identified as the suspect and arrested without incident after initial reports listed him as armed and dangerous. Formal charges against Gray Eagle are pending.

     Rapid City Police Captain Scott Sitts told a news conference investigators believe they recovered the gun used in the incident.

       Captain Scott also emphasized that the area has seen a high number of shootings and gun-related incidents and that the police need the public to help them make the community safer.
