Thefts From Vehicles Brings Reminder To Lock Doors Posted by John Axtell Date: June 19, 2020 3 Views CHADRON – The Chadron Police Department is reminding residents the best and easiest way to prevent a items from being stolen from a vehicle is to lock the doors. Sergeant Chelsey Stolley says 5 thefts from vehicles over the last few days are being investigated and it appears all 5 vehicles were left unlocked. Investigators also believe the thefts were committed by juveniles who checking to see if the vehicles they were walking past were locked – bypassing those that were. Sgt Stolley says Chadron police want everyone to remember not to leave their keys and valuables in their vehicles and to lock the doors – even if the vehicle is in a locked garage because it offers another level of protection. The following are some guidelines to keep in mind to help protect you from a potential theft. Keep spare keys in safe locations, report if any have gone missing recently Change locks if keys have gone missing Lock doors to vehicles and buildings Set a door/car alarm if able Don’t keep valuables inside vehicles, and if it cannot be helped, have the valuables not in plain sight Lighting is a great deterrent, motion activated floodlights or even parking beneath a street light is better than leaving a parked vehicle in the dark Call the Chadron Police Department if you see any individuals acting suspicious (checking car windows/doors while walking down the street).
