Thunderstorms Bring Needed Moisture To NW Nebraska, SW South Dakota

Northwest Nebraska and Southwest South Dakota received much needed moisture on Friday evening as thunderstorms producing hail and frequent lightning moved through the area.

Storms that moved through the area never had warnings placed on them, but dumped up to a quarter inch of rain in some places, including Chadron. Just a tenth of an inch of was reported in Harrison in Sioux County.

The National Weather Service in North Platte reported winds of 52 mph in Chadron and gusts of 45 mph in Gordon.

According to the data collected at the Chadrad weather center, parts of Dawes County are still as much as two inches of rain below normal for this time of year.

Thunderstorms are possible for the next few days as temperatures jump back into the lower and mid-90’s.
