CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – President Donald Trump on Saturday granted Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon’s request for his state to be declared a major disaster area because of the effects of the coronavirus.
FEMA administrator Pete Gaynor named Lee K. dePalo as the federal coordinating officer for the state.
As of Friday, Wyoming had recorded over 300 confirmed and probable cases of the virus in 19 of its 23 counties with 105 of the infected people having already recovered.
The disaster declaration means state, local and tribal governments as well as some non-profit organizations in Wyoming will be eligible for federal aid to help recovery efforts
Nebraska and South Dakota had received disaster declarations a weekend earlier.
