Trustees Approve New Joint Nutrition/Dietetics Major At CSC And WSCPosted by John AxtellDate: January 17, 2020 4:02 pmLeave a comment8 ViewsCHADRON – The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees has approved a new degree program in Nutrition and Dietetics offered jointly by Chadron State and Wayne State. Both schools will offer the required courses both in traditional classroom face-to-face form and online. The State College Trustees action is just one step in the approval process, with both the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education and the Higher Learning Commission also needing to give their ok. If it comes, Chadron State and Wayne State plan to begin offering the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics degree this fall. The Nutrition and Dietetics program will prepare graduates to earn the Registered Nutrition and Dietetics Technician credential, allowing them to either enter the workforce or enroll in a graduate level nutrition program. The nutrition courses also substitute for the pre-dietetics courses required for admission to accredited graduate programs in that field. The program grew out of the fact that small towns and rural areas of Nebraska have a shortage of nutrition/dietetics professionals and that there are no accredited programs in the state for the registered technician certification. Faculty at Chadron State and Wayne State then developed the Nutrition and Dietetics program based upon the accreditation standards for Bachelor’s Degree Programs.State College System Chancellor Dr Paul Turman says the collaborative nature of the joint program and the response of potential employers from across Nebraska show the program’s value. Many of those potential employers indicated that they have been trying to fill nutrition-related positions for “years”.
