Two Unrelated Fatal Shootings In 12 Hours In Rapid City; No Details Yet

The Rapid City Police Department is investigating two fatal shootings, one late Sunday afternoon and the early Monday morning.

No details have been released and names in both cases are being withheld pending notification of family.

Police say there’s nothing to suggest the shootings are related, but both scenes were residences with drugs and drug items found at both.

The first shooting was reported about 4:30 pm with police arriving to find an unresponsive man. They used life-saving measures until a medical unit arrived and took him to hospital, where he later died.

The second incident in the early morning hours Monday involved 3 victims. Two had serious but non-life threatening wounds while life-saving measures were attempted on the third, but he was pronounced dead after a medical unit arrived.

Police Chief Don Hedrick says officers and deputies in the Rapid City area “have been working around the clock to investigate these incidents.

Chief Hedrick adds that Rapid City has not been exempt from the rising rate of gun deaths in the United States, so local authorities remain dedicated to holding “the perpetrators of gun violence accountable through the criminal justice system.”
