UNMC Creates Division of Allergy And Immunology

OMAHA – The University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine has created a separate Division of Allergy and Immunology with 4 physicians/faculty members.

Allergy and Immunology had been in a division with Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine for 15 years.

Internal Medicine chair Dr Deb Romberger says the field of allergy and immunology has been growing so fast it needed its own division to allow for expansion of clinical research and community outreach.

The first chief of the new Allergy and Immunology Division is Dr Jill Poole, a Grand Island native and UNMC graduate who returned as a faculty member in 2005.

The first allergist hired by the school, Poole has been leading the allergy group and calls the creation of a separate division the realization of a dream for her.
