UPDATE -AG Charges Sheriff Dailey With Misconduct – Failing To Accept Prisoner Into Jail Posted by John Axtell Date: June 02, 2020 11 Views CHADRON – Dawes County Sheriff Karl Dailey is scheduled to appear in county court Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct in a dispute with the state over his refusing to accept a prisoner who’d been arrested on Nebraska and South Dakota state charges. The complaint filed by Chief Deputy Attorney General David Bydalek says Dailey violated state law last July 21st when he refused to receive as a prisoner Jesse Sierra of Pine Ridge, described in the complaint as “a lawfully committed offender. The then-33 year old Sierra and his 35-year old brother Dustin are accused of kidnapping a Rapid City woman and beating and strangling her for more than a week on the Pine Ridge Reservation and in Crawford. Sierra was arrested in Chadron after dropping the woman off at Chadron Community Hospital, where she was treated for severe injuries that included broken bones and bruising to her face and body. The brothers were later indicated on federal kidnapping charges and are scheduled for trial in federal court next month. Dailey was first elected sheriff nearly 34 years ago and was unopposed in his most recently reelection race 2 years ago.
