The University of Wyoming has proposed a new budget reduction plan that for a $42.3 million cut ordered by Gov Mark Gordon in response to a revenue shortfall caused by the rocky energy industry and the COVID-19 economic slowdown.
Gordon imposed a pair of 10% across-the-board cuts on state government, including the university.
Like an earlier version from this summer, the UW plan gets most of its savings from eliminating jobs – at least 78 academic and nonacademic positions, most currently unfilled.
The plan also looks at major changes to 20 academic programs the school characterizes as “low-enrollment.” They will be reviewed for potential reorganization, reduction or elimination.
