WNCC Board Brings Back John Marrin Again, This Time As Interim President

Loading

A retired community college president with long ties to Western Nebraska Community College is returning to the school.

John Marrin was named Wednesday by the WNCC board of governors as interim president in the wake of the resignation last week of Dr Carmen Simone.

He will serve until a permanent president is named, working under a 1-year contract that begins Monday. Compensation and benefits will be set at the board’s next regular meeting next month.

Marrin spent 22 years in a variety of roles at WNCC before becoming president of Colorado’s Lamar Community College, a post he held from 2008 until he retired in 2016

He returned to WNCC in July 2019 for what proved to be a 17-month run as interim executive vice president.

WNCC Board Chair Lynne Klemke says Marrin “brings a wealth of knowledge about this institution, the people who work here, who reside in our service area, and most of all, he brings a wealth of knowledge about how to serve our students.”

Marrin, who got his bachelor’s degree at Chadron State College, thanks the board for its support of him and the college, saying they’ve “done some phenomenal work over the years.”

As a result, he’s looking to “coming back and working with my friends and colleagues at WNCC toward the success of our students. That has always been a big part of everyone’s lives there.”
