Work Zone Collision Near Angora Kills 2, Dump Truck Driver Arrested

     Two people are dead, a third injured, and a fourth is in custody following an accident early Tuesday afternoon in a construction zone on Hwy 385 south of Alliance near Angora.

Names of the injured and deceased have not been released pending notification of family.

     The Nebraska State Patrol says its preliminary investigation shows a southbound dump truck with a load of wet cement was trying to enter the construction zone about 12:45 the driver failed to yield the right of way to a northbound pickup and they collided.

     The driver of the pickup and rear-seat passenger died at the scene while a front-seat passenger was taken by ambulance to Morrill County Hospital in Bridgeport with non-life-threatening injuries.

    The driver of the dump truck, 31-year old Aldo Hernandez-Meza of Mexico, suffered only minor injuries and was also taken to the Bridgeport hospital. 

    When Hernandez-Meza was released, he was arrested for motor vehicle homicide and failure to yield the right of way, and lodged in the Morrill County Jail. 

      The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol. The Morrill County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
