Wyoming’s Population Grows Slightly

New figures from the U-S Census Bureau shows Wyoming’s population increased slightly in the second half of 2018 and first half of 2019 after three years of decline.

The increase of 1,158 from July 1 to July 1 brought Wyoming’s total population to 578,880 – about 7,100 fewer than at its peak in 2015.

Hard times in the coal, oil and natural gas industries caused many people to leave Wyoming starting in 2015.

Growth in the energy and construction industries accounted for Wyoming’s recent population increase but that trend may be reversing following the July bankruptcy of Cloud Peak Energy, which furloughed hundreds of workers at 2 major coal mines for 4 month.
