Corey Sorenson of Your Selling Team is the new board chairman for NNDC, the Northwest Nebraska Development Corporation.

Sorenson, who has lived and worked in Chadron for more than 12 years, was elected Friday during the board’s annual reorganizational meeting, held virtually this year because of COVID-19.

Sorenson’s predecessor, Steve Behrends of Chadron Lumber, remains on the board as past chairman.

Ty Huls of Chadron Lawn Care was elected Vice President; Jason Carnahan of Security First Bank as Treasurer, and Jen Brown, chief financial officer of Chadron Community Hospital as Board Secretary.

2 newly-elected Board members were seated to start their 3-year terms, Jessica Sanford of Dawes County Abstract and Drew Pope of the Crites, Shaffer, Conneally, Watson, Patras & Watson legal firm.

Executive Director Deb Cottier says that for one of the few times in its history, NNDC made no loans last year – in part because of the pandemic, which led to the decision to focus almost entirely on helping existing local businesses survive.

Cottier says NNDC helped the city of Chadron create a COVID-19 grant program that delivered one-time grants of nearly $1,000 to more than 50 businesses, and began a loan forbearance program for clients suffering through COVID-19 shutdowns.

NNDC also created the Magic Multiplier GIft Card Match, which pumped more than $10,000 into the Chadron economy through more than 20 local businesses,

Northwest Nebraska Development Corporation (NNDC) is a county-wide not-for-profit development corporation overseeing economic development for Dawes County.

Over 50 businesses, organizations, and individuals – including Chadrad Communications – are members of NNDC.
