South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem in Box Elder on Wednesday for a first-hand look at plans for a major project for Ellsworth Air Force Base she announced during her budget message on Tuesday.
The $12.7-million dollar Liberty Center will be a recreational center adjacent to the base and open to all military personnel, their families, and Box Elder-area residents. Construction could start as early as March.
The air base has been using one of its hangers as a rec center, but it will be needed for aircraft when the new B-21 bomber makes Ellsworth its home.
Noem says it’s exciting for South Dakota to show the military personnel at Ellsworth and the residents of the surrounding community how much their service to the miliary and the nation is appreciated.
