Northwest Nebraska Trails Assn Invites Volunteers To Join Sat Project At CSC Labyrinth

For the second straight weekend, the Northwest Nebraska Trails Association is having a special activity at Chadron State College.

Last Sunday, it was Trick or Trails and tomorrow it’s a work day at the Chadron State College Labyrinth on the south end of the college campus.

Association President Dr Brittany Helmbrecht says the project will create a more accessible entrance to the Labyrinth with Mike Watts and CSC Horticulturist Lucinda Mays directing the work.

Helmbrecht says everyone in the community is invited to take part; just meet at 9:00 at the Nelson Physical Activity Center Parking lot.

She strongly encourages wearing sturdy shoes and bringing water and work gloves, although a limited number of gloves are available. She also says to feel free to bring a shovel or rake if you have one.

As for last Sunday’s Trick or Trails, Helmbrecht says about 250 trick-or-treaters participated – nearly double the number for last year’s inaugural outing – with all of them appearing to have a great time.

She also appreciates homeowners from the nearby Canyon Drive neighborhood decorating part of the route for added spookiness.

Helmbrecht says it was “encouraging to see so many families together on the trail enjoying the beautiful scenery and beautiful weather,” adding that promoting trails and getting families on them honors her group’s mission.

She also gives a big thanks to both the Trails Association members who helped put on the event and the volunteers who helped – including the CSC men’s and women’s wrestling teams, and the women’s golf, volleyball, and basketball teams.

Event sponsors, besides the sports teams, were Walmart, the Chadron Rotary Club, Thrivent, and Northwest Nebraska Tourism Director Kerri Rempp.
