NPS Denies Permit For July 4 Fireworks At Mount Rushmore

The National Park Service has denied a request by South Dakota for an Independence Day fireworks show at Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

A fireworks show was held last year on July 3rd for the first time in a decade with President Donald Trump in attendance.

NPS Regional Director Herbert Frost denied the state’s request for this on Thursday, saying his agency is concerned about risks to Mount Rushmore and its employees.

Gov. Kristi Noem tweeted Friday that the best place to celebrate the Fourth of July is Mount Rushmore.
