NSP Troopers Make 20 DUI Arrests Over Memorial Day Weekend

Loading

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 20 impaired drivers during Memorial Day Weekend and assisted 226 motorists in need of help.

In addition to the 20 DUI arrests, troopers issued 292 citations for speeding, 26 for driving under suspension, 18 for no proof of insurance, 14 for both open alcohol container and MIP, 7 for improper child restraint, and 5 for no seat belt.

More troopers were out than for a normal weekend because the latest edition of the Click It or Ticket national seat belt campaign was underway and brought a highway safety grant to cover overtime of having more officers on the road.

Click It or Ticket continues through Sunday and State Patrol Supt Colonel John Bolduc says troopers will continue working overtime this week as part of that effort to maintain a safe start to the summer driving season.

Bolduc says summer will be full of vacations and holiday celebrations, so he’s urging those planning to enjoy alcohol during those events to plan ahead and have a sober driver. He also says to always wear a seat belt.
