Oglala Nation Fair And Rodeo Postponed Indefinitely

PINE RIDGE, S.D. – The Oglala Sioux Tribe announced on Wednesday that the 35th annual Oglala Nation Fair and Rodeo has been postponed indefinitely for the safety of elders, participants, and families that take part in all the festivities during the celebration.

Tribal President Julian Bear Runner and Vice President Tyler Yellow Boy say in an open letter the tribe and the Lakota Nation Wacipi and Rodeo Committee took careful consideration of all the pandemic factors before making the difficult decision to table the July event.

They say the fair and rodeo is a time to bring families together, renew old friendships, and start new ones, making the decision even harder, but they promise everyone will come together again after the pandemic ends to share the Lakota culture and have a great celebration.

Bear Runner and Yellow Boy also encourage everyone to take care of each other and to remember to take precautions to keep loved ones and others safe such as washing hands frequently and observing social distancing recommendations
