Funeral Services for 85-year old Onda May Burrows West Hupp will be Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Gordon, NE.

Burial will be held in the Gordon Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 6-8 PM at the Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon.

A memorial has been established for Grace Lutheran Church and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

Onda May (Burrows) (West) Hupp was born to Paul and Hazel (Rush) Burrows on July 3, 1935 at the family farm south of Hay Springs, NE, and died at home surrounded by her family on July 5, 2020.

The fifth of six children, Onda attended Banner County School and graduated at age 17 from Hay Springs High School in 1953.

She loved horses and was crowned Hay Springs Friendly Festival Rodeo Queen in 1953 while competing in the barrel race on her favorite horse, Dan Patch.

She enrolled in a summer program at Chadron State College and received her teaching certification. She taught school and worked at the bank in Hay Springs when she met Orvis West, a young barber in Hay Springs. They were married on September 7, 1955.

Orvis and Onda moved to Gordon, NE, and raised four children: Gwenlyn, Doy, Fayanne and Paul. She lived in the Gordon area for 62 years and worked outside the home in the community for 19 years.

Onda was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as the local president of LWML and Sunday School Superintendent. She and Orvis enjoyed square dancing and spending winters at Padre Island, Texas, in their camper.

Family was everything to her, and she lived a loving and fulfilling life with Orvis for 42 years until his death in 1997. In 2000, she married Eugene Hupp and they shared seventeen golden years together until Gene passed away in 2017.

Onda was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Hazel (Rush) Burrows, her brother Edward Burrows, her sister-in-law Lavonne (Davis) Burrows and several West and Hupp family members, including her dear father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Helen (Glover) West.

She is survived by her brother Bryan Burrows of Hay Springs, NE and three sisters: Janis (Burrows) Wulf and George Wulf of Jackson Hole, WY, Jane (Burrows) Stiehl and Dr. Gary Stiehl of Colorado Springs, CO and Rose Burrows of Cheyenne, WY.

Also mourning her loss are daughter Gwenlyn (West) Brown and husband Dr. Richard Brown of Grand Island, NE, son Doy West of Gordon, NE, daughter Fayanne (West) Jensen and husband Kelly Jensen of Gordon, NE and son Paul West and wife Tara (Larsen) West of Lincoln, NE. Stepson Bill Hupp of El Dorado, CA.

Grandchildren: Meagan (Jensen) and Daniel Thompson of Gretna, NE, Neil (Brown) Heidi (Beardslee) Brown of Lincoln, NE, Erica Jensen and Jeff Hood of Denver, CO, Rebecca (Brown) and Matthew Clark of Fort Collins, CO, Olivia West and Audrey West of Lincoln, NE and her step grandchildren, Jeffrey Hugen and Hillary Hugen.

The light in her eyes were six great-grandchildren: Isaiah Thompson, Josiah Thompson, Wyatt Brown, Rhett Brown, Hazel Clark and Maxwell Clark and three great step grandchildren Benjamin Hugen, Lexi Hugen and Colt Hugen.
