The Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire and explosion Wednesday night as members of the Torrington Volunteer Fire Dept were setting up the city’s 4th of July fireworks show.
The department says 8 volunteers were in a building at Pioneer Park around 8 PM loading pyrotechnic shells into mortar tubes for Saturday’s show when one of the shells exploded and set off the entire display.
The 8 volunteers safely evacuated the building and began fire suppression efforts, joined soon by other members of their department and those from 3 other nearby communities.
One firefighter received minor injuries and was taken by the ambulance to the Emergency Room at Torrington Community Hospital.
